National: Current - National PTA Vice President for
Programs, 1999-2001: Oversees all National PTA programs, including Building
Successful Partnerships, publication of National PTA's book Building
Successful Partnerships and the development of the program's migration to CD
ROM; Reflections; Phoebe Apperson Hearst & Outstanding Local Unit awards;
Critical TV Viewing; working with staff as advisor to SERC teleconferences; safe
& nurturing schools; and public education. Serves as National PTA Program
Commission Chair. Represents National PTA in many arenas including: AOL Parent
Teacher Advisory Council, Anti-Defamation League Steering Committee, U.S. DOE
Partners and Families in Education, Education & Training Voluntary
Partnership. Appeared on the SERC teleconference on parent involvement; provided
interviews to several print media; presented on behalf of National PTA to

Disease Control and Prevention Conference on Child Healthcare, National
Association for the Education of Young Children, National Association of

Technology, as well as National PTA Conventions (8), Legislative Conferences
(5), Region 7 Conference (4), Region 1 Conference (4), Region 2 Conference (1),
State PTA Conventions (21), National PTA Board of Directors workshops (2), and
BSP Workshops (30).

Former - State President; Producer and Host of Hawaii State PTSA's monthly

Presented parent involvement workshops twice a year at the Hawaii State
Teacher's Association professional development conferences (3) and at the State
Superintendent's Annual Leadership Conference (4). Served on the following:
Hawaii Kids Count Advisory Council; the Education Commission of the States host
committee; the Hawaii Opinion Poll on Public Education; the State Department of
Education (DOE) Education Renewal Group; chaired Project Ke Au Hou, which
reorganized and decentralized the DOE; the state-wide school facilities focus
group; Hawaii School/University Partnership Task Force on Assessment, Testing,
and Evaluation; the DOE Educational Assessment and Accountability Advisory
Committee; Governor's Commission on Impaired Driving; the DOE Drug Advisory

Other Activities: Current - Currently has no other
activities than two PTA positions- National PTA VP of Programs and CT VP for
Convention, one committee, and her family. Having just finished three years of
full-time classes while holding down a 35-hour-a-week job, with teen-age
children, and fulfilling her PTA commitments, she thought she would take a
break! Serves on the National Academy of Sciences and Engineering Research
Committee on Tools and Strategies to Protect Children on the Internet-an
advisory committee to Congress and the President. Former - Bacon Academy
H.S.-Accreditation, Band Parents', and Cross Country Parents' Committees; St.
Andrew's Church Women's Guild and Newsletter Committee; Girl Scouts (three
states, 12 years) leader, Trainer, Day Camp & Resident Camp Director, NSGSC
Board of Directors; Mare Island Youth Council Board of Directors; USN Ombudsman
(3 commands-6 years); Mare Island Health Council; USN Regional Health Care
Council-Oakland; Little League Coach (4 years), Scorekeeper (5 years), and
Umpire (3 years).
Business/Professional Experience: Commercial Printing
Account Executive; Network Developer and Administrator; Computer Skills Trainer;
Assistant Personnel Director; oversaw the asbestos abatement program of a large
school district, including coordination with agencies, contractors, the EPA, and
court systems; Benefits Coordinator (oversaw insurance benefits for a company of
400 employees)
Family: Spouse-Bob, children-Chris (23): graduate of
Harvard University, currently a Naval officer; Tim (20): completed 2 years of a
computer engineering degree, employed as a network developer and administrator,
returning to school in September 2001; Katy (19): works for AmeriCorps,
assistant manager for Hollywood Video.
