Spring Brings New Opportunities With the holidays behind us, our thoughts at PTA turn to activities we associate with new beginnings in the spring. The first is our Reflections Program, an annual opportunity for creative expression by PTA school students that is recognized at the local, state and national level. Each year we at PTA are astonished at the level of artistic expression we see. Although not all of our schools participate in this valuable program, the ones who do need to be congratulated for their enthusiasm. It takes work on the part of the PTA Reflections Chairperson to "pull this all together." But in the end, I think we can all agree that the youngsters are really all winners! Our second big event is the state convention. Did you know this year’s convention is the 105th for our state? Did you know that Connecticut was the first state in the country to organize a PTA coming only three years after the inception of the National PTA? That certainly says something about our citizens and about how they view their children, our schools and children’s issues. Connecticut PTA was originally founded under the name of the Connecticut Congress of Mothers utilizing the same goals and objectives of the National Congress of Mothers that was organized in Washington, D.C. in 1897. Perhaps you have never attended a convention… perhaps you think it is not for you…perhaps you think it will take too much time… but, perhaps you should think about it. This year's convention promises to be filled with something for everyone. Our lives seem to be busier and busier but taking a day like this can be both fulfilling and rewarding for you and our children. Won’t you consider joining us this year? Perhaps you will be glad you did. Yours in PTA,
