THE FOLLOWING IS AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE CCEAGV (CONNECTICUT COLLABORATION FOR EDUCATION AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE.)
CT PTA & NATIONAL PTA HAVE NUMEROUS POSITION STATEMENTS AND RESOLUTIONS ON VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND GUN SAFETY. TO REVIEW THEM PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING WEBSITES:
Over the past three years, 140 CT residents were murdered by firearms. And firearms played a role in over 6,000 additional violent crimes1. Most of these crimes were committed by people who cannot legally own a gun. Gun traffickers exploit a loophole in CT law by buying firearms legally, then selling them to prohibited purchasers. When the crime gun is traced back to the trafficker, s/he says the gun was stolen. Legislation to close this loophole is now before the General Assembly. The proposal is supported by CT law enforcement, and has bi-partisan support in the legislature. This proposal is part of HB-5067, AN ACT REQUIRING THE REPORTING OF THE THEFT OR LOSS OF A FIREARM AND REQUIRING A LOCAL PERMIT FOR THE RETAIL SALE OF FIREARMS. We ask our members to contact their legislators and urge them to vote in favor of requiring the reporting of lost or stolen firearms.
