No Child Left Behind
What can you do to make a difference?
A workshop by Dr. Abigail Hughes
Connecticut’s children, and All schools (rural, suburban,
urban), will feel the effects of the No Child Left Behind law.
This year 149 Connecticut
schools were identified under the No Child Left Behind law as “not
making adequate yearly progress”. Next year the number is expected to
grow. Of the schools identified this year, 135 are expected to remain
on the list and will therefore experience consequences under the No Child
Left Behind Law. But in reality, all schools and children will feel
the effects of this law.
 |
What does
No Child Left Behind mean for you and your child? |
 |
Will your child’s school be one of the schools
identified as "failing" next year? |
 |
Will the size
of your child's classroom be affected by the public school choice
provision in No Child Left Behind? |
 |
Which school
in your town will receive students transferred from "failing" schools?
Where can you transfer your child if his/her school is labeled as
"failing"? |
 |
Is your child
eligible to receive tutoring services (supplementary services) under the
No Child Left Behind legislation? How do parents choose an after
school tutor for their child? Is the tutor accountable for the child
learning during this time? |
 |
What happens
to talented teachers who do not meet the federal definition of "highly
qualified teacher" under No Child Left Behind? How many of our
teachers in Connecticut do not meet the language of the law? What can
you do if your child's teacher is not a "highly qualified teacher"? |
 |
Will funding be provided to pay for mandatory
legislative changes required by No Child Left Behind? |
 |
What do you need to know to make good decisions? |
 |
What can YOU do to make a difference? |
To answer these questions, your need to understand
the law.
