The Community Coalition for Children (CCC) will present Dr. Ned Hallowell on Monday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m. at The Garde Arts Center in New London. Dr. Hallowell’s topic comes from his book, The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness: five steps to help kids create and sustain lifelong joy. Many parents and educators are familiar with his work, Driven to Distraction, an exploration of the attention deficit disorder.

The CCC unites public, independent and alternative schools, institutions and community organizations to empower children and families to deal with issues that face us all. This is the seventh annual program featuring nationally known speakers to educate and inform all of the people of the region about child, family, and parenting issues. It is offered free of charge and is especially appropriate for parents, teachers, counselors, home-schoolers, social services providers, and students themselves.

Child care is offered free of charge, but registration is required. Call (860) 701-5150.

On Tuesday, October 21st, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Crozier-Williams Center, Connecticut College, Dr. Hallowell will present an additional workshop, “Worry: Tonic or Toxic?” Drawing from his book, Worry: Hope and Help for a Common Condition, he will differentiate between excessive worry, which can make us inept and even physically ill, and “wise worry,” which enables us to detect danger and take steps to prevent bad outcomes.

For further information, contact the Community Coalition for Children via e-mail: communitychildren@hotmail.com or through LEARN (860) 434-4890.
