National Sleep Awareness WeekNational Sleep Awareness Week

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) is preparing for its fifth consecutive National Sleep Awareness Week campaign, April 1 - April 7; the week before Daylight Savings Time when Americans "lose" a precious hour of sleep.

This comprehensive and award-winning public education campaign is setting the standard for generating tremendous media, consumer and public policy interest in sleep and fatigue-related issues. Each year, NSF forms a growing coalition of health and safety organizations, state and federal agencies, and companies to urge all Americans to recognize how good sleep contributes to their health, safety and productivity. NSF and its partners invite your organization to join us in speaking directly to millions of Americans who need to learn more about sleep issues by becoming a Cooperative Co-Sponsor of NSAW 2002.

Each year, National Sleep Awareness Week (NSAW) "opens America's eyes to the importance of sleep" through the release of its revealing and thought-provoking Sleep in America poll results. Previous polls have shed light on sleep and fatigue issues on our nation's highways, in the workplace and in our schools. In addition to these important issues and questions about sleep disorders diagnosis and treatment, the focus of this year's poll and campaign will be on the role sleep plays in our daily lives, performance and emotional state. NSAW is not only the country's largest sleep awareness event, it
is also the ideal vehicle to advance the related mission and goals of leading organizations affected by sleep deprivation and fatigue.

There is no charge for this partnership opportunity. Through National Sleep Awareness Week, your organization gains direct access to this program and the opportunity to increase awareness among your employees and constituencies. We are confident that you can build on this event to promote greater public recognition of the importance of sleep and fatigue issues among your membership, employees, and clients and we will help provide the tools to do it.

As a Cooperative Co-Sponsor, NSF will provide you with:

bulletA NSAW logo, announcements and artwork for promotions and publications
bulletNSF Web site recognition and linkage (approx. 150,000 visitors/mo. estimated in 2001)
bulletAn invitation to participate in NSAW activities occurring on April 1-7 in Washington, DC, including: gala awards banquet, public policy forum on Capitol Hill, poll results press conference and much more
bulletCommemorative promotional materials for NSAW
bulletA 30% discount on all bulk quantities of NSF/NSAW educational materials.

Below are a few suggested activities that other partners have implemented for NSAW:

bulletSend a "Dear Colleague" letter to your membership, employees and clients officially announcing NSAW and your organization's participation
bulletSet up an education and information table in your workplace for employees and the public; NSF's Community Sleep Awareness Partners, local sleep center members,
are often available to provide presentations and additional information
bulletHold a press conference to highlight how fatigue and alertness issues affect your community and what your organization or agency is doing to address the problem
bulletSend a press release or Op-Ed article to your local newspaper to highlight your concerns
bulletAdd links from your web site to the National Sleep Foundation: www.sleepfoundation.org
bulletMail educational materials to your membership or clients.

The National Sleep Foundation looks forward to your participation in another successful National Sleep Awareness Week campaign. If you have any questions, contact:
