ANNOUNCEMENT
May 1, 2001
The Connecticut PTA's Board of Directors is proud to nominate Linda
Hodge for President-Elect of the National PTA.
Linda is an invaluable resource, a source of inspiration, a strong
voice for PTA, and a visionary leader. CTPTA believes that Linda's talent,
ability and energy are needed by the National Parent Teacher Association
as the organization changes, grows, and leads over the next two years.
Linda has an extensive base of knowledge founded in a variety of
experiences and levels of involvement in state PTAs and National PTA.
Linda lived in many states and participated in PTA in all of them. Her
knowledge of the people who comprise PTA is as extensive as her knowledge
of the issues that affect us all. Through her travels and involvement,
Linda developed ties with groups and people, local and national. She
brings to PTA a sense of community as well as an understanding of our
relationships to each other across all boundaries. Connecticut PTA feels a
broad base of knowledge and experience and sense of community are
essential to the President-Elect.
Linda inspires new leaders and motivates long time PTA members. She
personally demonstrates to all PTA members the accessibility and
responsiveness of the National PTA. She is honest, open, friendly and,
above all, approachable. She challenges individuals to attempt new things
and then supports their efforts. With her genuine enthusiasm for PTA, our
state board has come to see that an effective and mutually beneficial
relationship between National PTA and a state PTA is possible and
desirable. Connecticut PTA believes the President-Elect must be
enthusiastic, supportive and inspiring to all levels of the organization.
Linda clearly and persuasively speaks for PTA. She understands the
issues and finds the relationships between local and national policies.
While encouraging open debate, Linda does not lose sight of our mission
and can effectively communicate our ideals to all-local member, state
board, professional organization leader, legislator, or man on the street.
She has the ability and professionalism to express herself in the manner
most fitting the situation. Connecticut PTA believes the President-Elect
must be a powerful voice for children, a strong communicator able to
relate to all types of people.
Finally, Linda has a vision of a strong, effective National PTA. That
she deeply believes in the mission of the National PTA is obvious. Her
dedication to the organization, understanding of its past, and aspirations
for its future are driving forces in her life. While she values the rich
history of PTA, she also understands the need for change. She recognizes
that the National PTA will be a force to contend with long after she is
gone. Connecticut PTA believes that the President-Elect must be a strong
leader who is not afraid of change.
Connecticut PTA's Board of Directors is proud to recommend Linda Hodge
for President-Elect. Her presence in our state has made a huge impact. We
believe the National PTA can profoundly benefit from her leadership as
President-Elect.
