In the true spirit of PTA, a group of parents, children and staff from Porter Magnet School in Syracuse traveled to the Sheldon family plot, in the Hollowitt Hill Cemetery on Split Rock Road. They placed a wreath on the tombstone commemorating the date of the first meeting of the association.
This event was sponsored by Nutmeg Statewide
PTA, Statewide Unit of CT PTA.
| THANKS...
Without the help of the following people, the
100th anniversary of the first PTA meeting in Connecticut would
have gone unnoticed.
Thanks to several Nutmeg Statewide PTA members
who were instrumental in making this event happen. Eileen
Litscher called all of the cemeteries in Syracuse to locate the
grave site. Florence Iodice contacted her cousin, an assistant
superintendent in Syracuse Public Schools who then gave Florence
the name of the principal of Porter Magnet School. Carol Duggan
called Delia Fiumara, Porter Magnet School principal, with the
name of the cemetery, date of the founding of CT PTA and
forwarded her a history of CT PTA so that she and the others
would know why Florence Shelton Bolton was so important to our
organization.
Thank also to the principal, staff, parents
and students of Porter Magnet School in Syracuse NY for going
out on a cold snowy day to do a favor for a friend! |
