Election gives teachers
lesson plans
Many educators have abandoned their planned lessons during the
past weeks to explain how the electoral process works,
and how a candidate can simultaneously win and lose an election.
The reaction from students seems to be the same throughout the
nation -- they realize that American politics and individual
votes really do matter... CLICK

Connecticut Network (CT-N) will cover the Connecticut Electoral
College live from beginning to end on Monday, Dec. 18 starting at
12 noon. The event is expected to conclude at 1 p.m.
The eight Connecticut residents who make up the Electoral College
will cast
their ballots for president and vice president in the State Senate
Chambers of the State Capitol on Monday. Though George Bush is now
officially president-elect, the U.S. Constitution and federal law
mandate that Connecticut electors cast their votes for Democrats Vice
President Al Gore and U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut because
they carried the popular vote in the state on Nov. 7.
The Electoral College ballots will be counted and sealed by Secretary
of the State Susan Bysiewicz. The sealed ballots will be sent to
Washington, D.C., where ballots from every state will be counted on Jan.
6 at a joint session of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S.
Senate.
"This election has created fresh interest in the significance of
the Electoral College and the entire process of government in
general," said Paul Giguere, president and chief executive officer
of the Connecticut Public Affairs Network, which is CT-N's producing
partner. "Our start-to-finish coverage of Monday's Electoral
College is a good example of what CT-N does every single day. Our
mission is to open up the process of government to the people. CT-N
shows you what's really happening without editorializing."
"Real people - maybe your neighbors - are taking part in this
historic event. The Connecticut electors live in New Haven, Meriden,
Hartford, Norwalk, Waterbury, Vernon, and West Hartford. When you watch
an event like this on CT-N, it hits home that real people take part in
our democracy, on the state and federal level, every day," said
Giguere.

provides unedited coverage of Connecticut's legislative, executive, and
judicial branches. CT-N is a partnership of CPTV, Connecticut Public
