Nutmeg Statewide PTA
Distinguished Leadership Citation

The Nutmeg Statewide PTA (NSPTA) Annual Distinguished Leadership Citation was established in 1991 at the NSPTA Annual Meeting.

To be eligible, one must be an NSPTA member or past/present CT PTA Board of Directors member whose services have had a major influence on NSPTA or a commission/committee or the entire Board of Directors while representing the association. The recipient must exhibit exemplary leadership and professionalism in service to, or in the promotion of, CT PTA through association activities.

The award is presented at CT PTA Annual Convention by the NSPTA President or his/her designee.  A plaque is given to the recipient, and a master plaque will hang in CT PTA office with each recipient’s name and year of award listed.

2007 Recipient

Kevin Daly is an NSPTA member and immediate past president of CT PTA. He has been involved in PTA for the past 13 years serving as First Vice-President, Chairman of both the Office Management and Strategic Planning Committees. He has also been the CT PTA Membership VP and Convention VP. He is currently the President of CT PTA's SEPTA Council, a group which he founded two years ago.

The SEPTA Council brings together the SEPTA units and various member agencies who work with special needs children. The Council disseminates information through email, making this parent population aware and very knowledgeable about educating their children, giving them information about upcoming seminars and speakers and developing a community of concerned parents and professionals. This is "ground-breaking work", according to one of the Outreach Directors of National PTA. The CT SEPTA Council is the first in the nation.

Kevin, as a matter of fact, has devoted his entire professional career to special needs children and their parents. He worked for the Learning Disabilities Association of CT, a non-profit organization located in Hartford and has been the Technology Director of Future Horizons in Southington, a support center for young people with learning disabilities. Today, Kevin is a Consultant and parent advocate. He attends PPT meetings with parents of special needs children when they meet with their school administrators to help the parents negotiate their way through the system so that each child will have the best education available to them. While he charges for his services, it is always on a sliding scale and based on one's ability to pay. Kevin does this work because he loves it and he loves helping people. He is well respected in the professional community and is a sought after advocate.

As of last count, Connecticut PTA can boast 45 SEPTAs and Kevin has been instrumental in chartering each of them. He has traveled far and wide bringing the message of PTA to the farthest corner of Connecticut. We are very proud of his accomplishments and very proud to present him with the 2007 NSPTA Distinguished Leadership Citation.
